In a world where people are more comfortable when things are categorized, consider the thoughtfully engineered 2007 RAV4. For 2006, Toyota is trying to bring the RAV4 back into the spotlight. The new third-generation version arrives later this year and is built on an all-new platform that makes the new RAV4 longer and wider, inside and out. Along with more muscular styling, Toyota has bumped up the RAV4’s power as well.It's just the right size to get chores done around town, while rugged enough to have some outdoor fun. No matter how you put this RAV4 to use, its utility allows you to arrange the seats and ample storage space to accommodate any combination of passengers and packages. Its exterior is sleek and stylishly sculpted. Yet the RAV4 rolls like a true SUV with a powerful 4-cylinder engine or an available 269-hp V6.
In 1995, Toyota placed 20 prototype RAV4-EVs in the field, ten in Japan and ten in the US. These were a mixture of lead-acid and nickel metal hydride battery versions that saw service in LA, San Francisco, Sacramento, Detroit and New York. The lessons learned from these field tests have been integrated into the 1998 model, including improved HVAC system, battery management and cooling systems, 5 door, 5 passenger seating, improved motor torque and lengthened wheelbase for a better highway ride.
Toyota Motor Corporation discontinued production of the RAV4 Electric Vehicle worldwide in the spring of 2003. Therefore, Toyota will no longer take orders for the RAV4 EV.
The Toyota RAV4 was completely redesigned for the 2006 model year, on an all-new platform. It still has the 2.4 L four-cylinder engine, which now produces 166 hp, up 5 from last year. Unique to North America, the new RAV4 also includes a new 3.5 L V6 engine from the Toyota Avalon, making 269 hp. The RAV4 is up by 21 percent in interior volume from the last generation and now has an available third row seat for two small children.

In 2006, the RAV4 was the grand prize of Tim Hortons "Roll Up the Rim to Win" contest. Two families began fighting over the RAV4 after their daughters found the winning cup in the garbage.
