Technical features
The Ford Focus is a compact car currently offered in sedan, wagon, and three-door and five-door hatchback body styles. As Ford's entry-level product, the front-wheel-drive Focus is far from luxurious but nonetheless displays a surprising amount of character from behind the wheel. ,The interior of the car was also radically styled, featuring many curves and sweeping lines. Although the design was clearly influenced by the more radical Ford Ka the interior design language was more akin to those of American cars, in the same way the Mk 1 Mondeo was.
Ford Motor Company and sold in most Ford markets worldwide. It was launched in 1998 in Europe. Since then, it has become the United Kingdom's best selling car, following in the success of its predecessor, the Escort.
Introduced for the 2000 model year, the Ford Focus was designed to be a "world car," meaning that it has been sold around the world in the same basic form as the car sold in the United States.
The engine line up for the Mk 2 is a mixture of old and new. Revised versions of the 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre all aluminium Zetec-SE engines from the previous generation Focus were carried over, although the units were now renamed Duratec (see next paragraph). The 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre Zetec petrol engines of the original were dropped, with the 1.8 litre unit being replaced by an all-new 1.6 litre Duratec Ti-VCT engine with variable valve timing, while the 2.0 litre engine was replaced by the Mk 2 Mondeo's 2.0 litre Duratec engine. The PSA-developed Duratorq diesel engine in 1.6 L 100 hp and 110 hp editions, Ford's own 'Lynx' Duratorq 1.8L 115 hp diesel carried over from the previous model and the PSA DW10 diesel in 2.0 L form rounds off the range in standard Focus guise . The new Focus ST, however, has a 2.5 litre 220 bhp 5 cylinder straight engine, derived from Volvo as used in the S40 T5. The Focus ST's engine uses a turbo and offers a healthy 236 lb ft torque peaking as low as 1,600 rpm. This gives the ST a top speed of approximately 150mph .Top speed is 150mph, and 0-60mph is achieved in a creditable 6.5 seconds. In the chassis department. The ZX3 (three-door) and ZX5 (five-door) hatchbacks are available in S, SE and SES trims, while the ZXW wagon comes in SE or SES only. The ZX4 sedan is available in S, SE, SES and the sport-flavored ST.

In February 2007, a picture of an apparent Focus RS mk 2 model appeared on the front-cover of Autocar magazine. The magazine claimed that this is currently a top-secret 18-month project by Ford to resurrect the Focus RS name, but with a mk 2 body shape.
